Typewriters Belong in Museums not in our Governments

While Pennsylvania’s budget buzz this summer has drowned out almost all else, as it should, our neighbors to the north were dealing with a $1 million whir on fiscal spending. It turns out that New York City alone is spending $1 million dollars this year on typewriters and the service and maintenance of them for their police department.
While many of us may wax nostalgic for our old Underwoods or IBM Selectrics, the very idea of anyone having to battle ribbons and tap out anything on our old friends sends a shiver down the spine and a lingering puzzlement as to why would anyone want to work like that.
